COVID-19 virus and its impact
The Commissioner of the Unemployment Insurance Fund has published on 23 March 2020 an “Easy Guide” explaining the processes developed to access UIF benefits in order to contribute to the containment of the spread of the COVID-19 virus and its impact.
UIF benefits will become applicable where companies need to close for a short period. In this instance should an employee loses his/her income due to the reduced working time, despite still being employed, such employee is entitled to UI benefits.
UI benefits will also become applicable where the employee need to be self-quarantined, under the Illness benefits provisions.
