[Update Date: 20 September 2024] [Update Date: 17 September 2024] [Update Date: 27 August 2024] [Post Date: 22 August 2024]
Issue Details: When requesting a new return via GreatSoft (GS), a standard notification stating, ‘Your return for tax period 2024 should be available within 24 hours’, is received. Typically, waiting for approximately an hour (often just a few minutes) and then retrying the request will successfully issue and import the return into the GS system. However, currently, regardless of the waiting time or the number of attempts, the return is not being issued.
Affected Services: ITR12 return requests
Date First Reported: 21 August 2024
Status
[20 September 2024] SARS has fixed the request issue and ITR12 returns can now be requested as per normal
[17 September 2024] SARS has identified the issue and applied a fix, but it did not resolve the issue
[27 August 2024] SARS has identified the cause of the issue and is currently working on resolving it.
[21 August 2024] We have escalated the issue to Interfront, the third-party intermediary between GS and eFiling. Interfront has further escalated the matter to the SARS eFiling database team for investigation.
Fix Timeline
[20 September 2024] The issue has been resolved
[17 September 2024] SARS indicated that a fix was applied over the weekend of the 13th, however the issue has not been resolved.
[27 August 2024] SARS has indicated that the fix is scheduled for this week, though no specific date has been provided.
[21 August 2024] To be confirmed.
Workarounds
[20 September 2024] None needed, everything works as per normal
[17 September 2024] The ‘ITR = Unable to request ITR – eFiling – RequestITReturns: RequestReturnsITR12.ProcessReply – Failed: Additional information: We encountered a condition not expected here: System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.DbUpdateException.’ error has been fixed and the return can now (again) be issued directly on eFiling and then requested on GS.
[27 August 2024] There is currently another bug that SARS needs to fix. After issuing the return on eFiling and then trying to request the return on GS, the following error occurs: ‘ITR = Unable to request ITR – eFiling – RequestITReturns: RequestReturnsITR12.ProcessReply – Failed: Additional information: We encountered a condition not expected here: System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.DbUpdateException.’ The workaround is to delete the ITR12 from the ITR dashboard and then re-request the ITR12 via the eFiling dashboard.
[21 August 2024] Issuing the return directly on eFiling and then requesting it on GS will successfully import the return into the GS system.
